Nature Conservationists and Amateur Radio Operators Build Eco-friendly Path to Largest Spruce Tree in Fennoscandia.

The Karelia Regional Nature Conservancy SPOK has completed work on the construction of a tourist path to the largest spruce tree in Fennoscandia, which is located on the grounds of the Zaozersky Scenic Reserve on the outskirts of Petrozavodsk. Members of the regional branch of the Russian Union of Amateur Radio Operators and the Green Wave environmental movement took part in the construction along with SPOK staff members and volunteers. They built a log path in the woodlands leading to the unique spruce as well as a platform around the tree itself, which will prevent the ground from being trampled and will provide easy access for tourists.
The construction funds for the path, amounting to more than 90,000 rubles, were allocated by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Republic of Karelia. The authorities predict that in the near future the largest spruce in Fennoscandia will become one of the popular tourist attractions near the Karelian capital. Even now many adventure vacation enthusiasts from Petrozavodsk and the Prionezhsky District visit the tree.
